Jupiter's Favor: Altar Talismans

This summer I spent time on the Washington coast, walking long stretches of shoreline where the world seemed to dissolve into elemental simplicity and the occasional surfer. Miles of beach stretching toward a horizon so vast it felt like a threshold.
I have always loved liminal places, but this coast felt different. It felt like standing at the edge of the world with nothing beyond. Or what was beyond wasn't quite of this world.
Each day I wandered for hours, often without speaking to anyone else. The tide moved in and out. Fog rolled across the water and disappeared again. I was in a stormy place and the ocean calls forth a kind of spiritual engagement that borders on truth-seeking.
During those walks I began finding sand dollars.
Some revealed themselves in the retreat of a wave. Others rested with their brethren on impromptu shoals. I made a mental note to bring a bag, and then I started gathering them, careful to choose only the whitened tests, not knowing what they would become.
Maybe only beach mementos. A bag of shells destined for the back of a closet.
Yet they felt like remainders. Remembrances. The hard things that are left after the soft things die.
As I carried them home, I found myself reflecting on the astrology of this moment.
Jupiter has recently completed its year-long journey through Cancer and entered Leo. In traditional astrology, Jupiter is exalted in Cancer. Here, the great benefic expresses itself through protection, nourishment, belonging, memory, lineage, and care.
Cancer reminds us that growth does not always happen in public. Some forms of abundance emerge quietly in the dark, sheltered places of life. Jupiter in Cancer speaks to those hidden incubations. It reminds us that not everything valuable arrives under bright lights. Some of the most meaningful thresholds and initiations of our lives occur outside public view. Outside the view of colleagues and friends. Sometimes even outside the view of our rational selves. They emerge from an interiority that is sacred, wild, and entirely sui generis.
We live in a culture that celebrates visibility while overlooking gestation. We applaud the launch but rarely honor the years of quiet becoming that made it possible. Yet Jupiter's passage through Cancer invited me to remember that protection is itself a blessing. Privacy and silence can be blessings.
As Jupiter crosses into Leo, something shifts. The protected flame seeks expression. I felt it immediately in my own life. Jupiter's entrance into Leo carries an energetic shift from moonlight to sunlight, from midnight to high noon.
Leo is the sign of sovereign creativity, courage, and individual brilliance. It asks each of us to embody what makes us distinct—not in the sense of performance or self-promotion, but through wholehearted service to something greater than ourselves.
Jupiter's movement into Leo magnifies that invitation. It asks us to bring forth what has been quietly developing in secret. It asks us to trust the spark.
Looking at those sand dollars from the Washington coast, I realized that they carried this story within them. They emerged from solitary walks and quiet contemplation. From a landscape where sea met sky and where I spent hours reflecting on Jupiter's blessings, both visible and invisible.
What began as simple treasures gathered from the shore gradually transformed into devotional objects dedicated to Lord Jupiter—the ancient Zeus, ruler of the bright heavens and patron of wisdom, justice, generosity, and benevolent leadership.
And so Jupiter's Favor came into being.
Each talisman begins as a natural sand dollar gifted by the sea. Every piece is hand-painted, blessed during the New Moon, and consecrated with prayers aligned with Jupiter's highest virtues:

They honor the protected spaces where genius first flickers into existence. Not genius as fame or achievement. Genius as the Romans understood it: a guiding spirit, an irreducible essence, the singular flame each of us carries into the world.
